- The Birch Tree -

 

Description :

Varies from a small coarse shrub to a small tree up to 10 metres high; most commonly shrubby, with several spreading trunks.

   
Fruit :

Tiny, hairy nutlets with wings broader than the seed. Thousands of seeds are produced from each tree.

   
Leaves :

The leaves are ovate to heart-shaped, toothed, 2-3 inches (5.1-7.6 cm) long, and dark green, turning yellow to orange in fall.

   
Bark :

White bark that separates along horizontal slits and peels into thin papery layers, exposing an underbark which is pale orangeish brown.
